RIDE invites you to the official UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) side event:
“Ambition to Impact: Connecting the SDGs and the UN Decade for Sustainable Transport through Monitoring”
- Tue, 7 July 2026
- 1.15pm-2.30pm (75 minutes)
- New York, UNHQ (Conference Room; CR-F)
Transport connects people to jobs, schools, and healthcare, while enabling the movement of goods that power the global economy. As a key driver of development, the sector is central to achieving the SDGs and advancing the objectives of the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport. At the same time, accelerating the transition to low-carbon, inclusive mobility remains a shared global priority.
The event will bring together stakeholders to share sustainable low-carbon transport good practices across the SDGs, advance the discussion on monitoring and implementation under the Decade, and engage UN country representatives in raising the profile of the Decade and related activities.
The session will:
- Spotlight the vital role of transport in delivering and accelerating the SDGs through the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport
- Feature inspiring good practice examples from the Global South
- Explore the critical role of monitoring and implementation under the UN Decade
- Showcase best practice
Speakers include:
- Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA)
- Choudhury Rudra Charan Mohanty, Environment Programme Coordinator, UNCRD
- Sang-Jin Shin, Mayor of Seongnam City, Republic of Korea
- Mark Major, Senior Strategy Director, Kuehne Climate Center
The session will also feature opening remarks from Erin Tansey (IDRC) and closing remarks from Carly Gilbert-Patrick (SLOCAT Partnership) and Holger Dalkmann (Asian Development Bank).
We warmly invite anyone interested in sustainable transport, climate action, and the SDGs to join the discussion alongside leading transport experts, researchers, policymakers, and government representatives.
